If the weather outside is a little frightful, hot chocolate is always comforting! Since we can’t have real hot cocoa in the classroom every day, we are happy to add some pretend hot chocolate mugs to our learning activities this winter. These hot chocolate ten frame cards are a fun activity to add to your winter math centers, and are a great way for Pre-K and Kindergarten students to build their counting and one to one correspondence skills.

*Pair these with our Winter Centers for tons of print and play fun!

Hot Chocolate Ten Frame Cards

These are a super easy math center to prep. Just print, laminate, and cut!

I put them in a basket with some marshmallows (which I sealed in a container, after clearly explaining these are NOT for eating – they did very well with them because they were a novelty and we got to eat a few after) and we were ready for some counting fun!

You may prefer to not use a real food item, in which case other counters such as beads, white pom poms, or mini erasers will work just as well.

You can also do this as a snack activity, giving each child their own small cup of marshmallows to count with, and then eat when they are done!

We have had a lot of practice with ten frames, and learning how they help us to organize numbers.

Each amount gets their own space, which really helps us to build up our one to one correspondence as we count out items from left to right, one at a time.

You can even add fun fine motor tools such as kid tweezers into the mix for picking up the items to build up finger strength!

We read the number on each mug, and counted out the corresponding number of marshmallows.
