Preschoolers and Kindergarteners can practice writing and fine motor skills this winter with these free Mitten Alphabet Tracing Cards!

Mitten Alphabet Tracing Cards

This printable set of alphabet tracing cards includes 26 mitten cards. Each card has a traceable uppercase and lowercase letter of the alphabet on it.

To prep this activity, print the mitten cards and cut them apart on the gray dotted lines. Be sure to laminate the cards to keep them sturdy and allow for use with dry erase markers.

When the cards are prepped and ready, add them to a basket with dry erase markers and an eraser. In my class, we use washcloths that I cut up into smaller squares as erasers. Old socks work too!

Fun Tip: For an added winter twist, grab some mittens for kids to wear while completing this activity. It’s a simple way to engage kids in a silly way.

How to Use the Tracing Cards

Using these alphabet tracing cards is easy and fun! Students simply pull a card from the basket and trace the uppercase and lowercase letters on the card. When they are done they choose another card.

With any activities that involve the alphabet, some students may feel overwhelmed by the fact that there are 26 mitten letter cards.

When this happens, I give a specific number to complete or assign certain letters based on each child’s needs.

This helps give the kids a realistic chance at reaching their goal and builds confidence!

If you are only working on uppercase OR lowercase letters, put an ‘X’ through the letter that is not the focus. This will help make sure that kids are tracing the correct letter.

This alphabet tracing activity is sure to be a hit in your classroom all winter long!
