When students have mastered CVC words, they are ready to move on to CVCe words. Learning about that “Magic e” that has the power to change vowel sounds is so exciting for kids. These CVCe Word Writing Activities for Kindergarten add even more excitement by reinforcing important phonics skills while encouraging movement. Your students are sure to have a blast “writing the room!”
CVCe Word Writing Activities for Kindergarten
This CVCe activity pack includes 38 word cards (8 words for long vowels a, i, o, u and 6 words for long vowel e) with recording sheets. Each card also has a fun picture clue on it. Before cutting apart the word cards, be sure to laminate them so they are durable and reusable!
You get to choose which long vowel your students are working on in the writing center. (A variety of consonant sounds are used with the long vowels so students can practice many different sounds.)
Ways to Use the CVCe Activities
In Kindergarten, “Write the Room” activities are a great way to work on important literacy skills because it means the kids can also get up and move. It’s so simple and so fun!
Start by posting the CVCe word cards all around the room. The kids can walk around with the recording sheet on a clipboard, labeling the pictures as they find them.
You can also choose to have one set of students hide the cards around the room while the other kids search for them. When they are done, they can switch so each student gets a turn to “hide” and “seek!”
These CVCe cards and recording sheets can also be used as a literacy center. Simply place the cards in a small basket or add them to a sensory bin for even more hands-on learning fun!
Teacher Tip: Add the recording sheets to a dry erase pocket sleeve to make the activity reusable. Grab some dry erase markers and you’re ready to write!
Differentiated Recording Sheets
The recording sheets can be used multiple ways to meet the needs of all your students. Each recording sheet comes with a front page with five empty boxes where kids can pick a card and label the pictures. Print double-sided for extra writing practice!
There are two options for the back page. The first option includes 3 additional pictures for students to label and a pre-written sentence that they can trace.
The second option includes 3 pictures for labeling and blank lines. Students ready for an extra challenge can choose a word from the page and write their very own simple sentence.
This is a great way to inspire confidence and creativity!
Plus, at the end of the file, all of the CVCe word cards also come in black and white for an ink-saving option!
