How to Play

You can turn it into a group game too where you divide the pieces between groups.

The groups first fit the pieces they have together if they can and then take turns to ask for the other halves as you would in a game of “Go Fish.”

For instance, one group asks another group (ask only one group at a time to make it more challenging): “Do you have the letter B for us?” If the group does have the other half, they must let it go, if not, the asking group must wait for another turn to ask another group for a letter.

The group with all their heart puzzles “matched up” wins!

Another way to use these heart puzzles is to work on alphabetical order.

Place one half of the hearts in alphabetical order, then ask the students to add the missing pieces, but also in alphabetical order. Now you have an upper and lowercase matching activity with an alphabetical order activity – two in one!

Tip: For early learners, provide an ABC chart for them to refer to.

If your students are proficient in alphabetical order, scramble all the pieces and ask them to fix it up in alphabetical order!
