In early childhood classrooms, if you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, it might mean stories of leprechauns, pots of gold at the end of the rainbow, and LOTS of green glitter. These St. Patrick’s Day Writing Activities for Pre-K & Kindergarten are a fun way to add these fun themes into your day without the glitter mess (though that can be fun too!). They’re low prep and will have your students labeling, building vocabulary, practicing sentence writing, and more!

When I first introduce our writing center activities, I give instructions and we practice routines often. By this time of year, the practice has paid off and most of my class can complete these writing centers independently!
For these St. Patrick’s Day writing centers, students will be introduced to the following vocabulary words: coin, Irish flag, harp, horseshoe, leprechaun, shamrock, pot of gold, and rainbow.
The included vocabulary cards come 4 to a page (8 words total) and are a great size to accompany all the activities. Be sure to laminate them for durability and reuse before adding them to your writing centers!

The mini “Write It!” book is the perfect way to introduce the vocabulary words.
Each page contains a picture that matches a labeling card and a space for the students to write the word. When they’re done writing they’ll have a blast coloring the fun, seasonal pictures!
This “Write the Room” activity is one of our favorites in the pack because we can use it so many different ways!
Set out the recording sheets at a table with the vocabulary cards in a pocket chart for the kids to see and simply record. Or, you can hide the cards in a sensory bin. I like to post the cards all around the room on the walls and kids can walk around with clipboards as they label the pictures.
However you decide to use this activity, your students will love it!
The St. Patrick’s Day story book is perfect for an ongoing project in March or themed journal. You could even send it home for kids to work on writing with their families!
Print the pages double-sided and use the cover page to create a journal, or just use single pages as writing prompts in your writing centers if you prefer.
The goal is for kids to write a few sentences or a short story about the picture on each page.
Work on writing, scissor skills, AND gluing with the Trace and Paste printable. Strengthen all these skills in one fun, easy-prep activity!
Kids trace the words and then cut and paste their matching pictures next to them (using the word cards for support if needed).
