Recycled Cardboard Roll Alphabet Match Activity

Using recycled materials teaches children how to re-use recyclables for a different purpose! What’s extra awesome about this is we save on our activity budget too! Anytime we can use recyclable materials in our classroom is a win-win for all!

You do not need fancy containers for this alphabet match activity, just cut cardboard rolls. They’re the perfect size for a letter or two!

You can use your foam letters, beads or letter cards. Thus, using what you have already and recycling cardboard rolls makes this a frugal activity too!

Prep the Cardboard Rolls

Paint the rolls (optional) and write the corresponding letters in upper and lower case on the rolls.

Arrange the rolls around the table with the letters in the middle.

How to Play

Let the fun begin! Ask your students to sort the letters into the correct rolls!

Extension Activities: Challenge your students to make their names using the letters. Those who are still learning how to write their name can use their name tags as self-correcting.

You can also give students lined paper and crayons for recording their letters, names and words if they can make words!

This simple setup lower and upper case letter recognition activity is perfect for small group work or partner work!
