A little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is just the thing to brighten up those gloomy days of March! Kids love rainbow activities and this Rainbow Canvas St. Patrick’s Day Art is the perfect project for your classroom art center. Your students will really enjoy sponge painting and creating this one-of-a-kind rainbow art masterpiece!
Rainbow Canvas St. Patrick’s Day Art
With very little help, little ones can create a beautiful sponge painting on canvas for a magical St. Patrick’s Day art piece! You can place this art project in your art center or create it with your students in small groups.
Display your students’ art masterpieces around the classroom on mini easels and do a classroom art walk. What a beautiful classroom tradition that they will never forget!
Instructions for Assembly
Begin by cutting a square shape from the sponge for each color of the rainbow that you will use.
Dab a sponge into the paint and stamp it onto the canvas to start creating the shape of a traditional rainbow or one shooting across the sky.
Continue to do the above step until your rainbow is complete. Be sure to use a new sponge for each color of paint. Let the paint dry completely.
Creative Tip: Allow the paint to overlap a bit to get a nice blend of colors.

Cut cloud shapes from black cardstock. Use a sponge to dab white paint across the entire cloud, leaving a small black border around the edges. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Glue the clouds onto the rainbow, slightly hanging off of the canvas.
Cut the shape of a black pot from black glitter foam (you can also use black cardstock if you can’t find black glitter foam). Glue the black pot onto the cloud.
Spread a bit of glue above the pot and add gold glitter. Allow the glue to dry. Chunky glitter looks a lot like gold coins!
Stand back and enjoy all the beautiful St. Patrick’s Day art masterpieces your students have created!
