I absolutely love using alphabet magnets in my classroom because there are so many learning activities for them! From letter recognition to letter sounds, CVC words to sight words, and more – there are so many ways to play and learn with alphabet magnets. One of our favorite ways to use them is for letter matching as we begin to identify letter names. This free Pull and Trace Alphabet Magnet Activity is a great literacy center for Pre-K and Kindergarten students who are just learning their letters!

What I love most about this alphabet magnets literacy center is how simple it is to prep!
All you need are the two Magnet Match printables (download below), some alphabet magnets, and crayons or writing utensils of your choice!
I have a huge collection of letter magnets ranging from dollar store finds to ones that came with the classroom, but my favorite alphabet magnet set is the one that color codes the consonants and vowels.
This activity is easy and so fun. Simply place the letter magnets in a small basket or grab bag for the students, and print as many Magnet Match recording sheets as needed.
Want this activity to be reusable? Just laminate the recording sheets or place them in a dry erase pocket sleeve. The kids can use dry erase markers to trace and erase over and over again!
You can choose to use either the uppercase or lowercase version or use both. So, you could have students match opposites, or for students who are just learning letter names and are not quite ready for that, they could look for letters that are the same.
The kids just pull a letter magnet from the basket, find its match on the recording sheet, and trace over it.
We love to use crayons or skinny markers to trace, making this activity even more engaging!
