To become fluent readers, students first need a strong foundation in phonics. Building this foundation begins with learning letters and their individual sounds. It then grows into blending those letter sounds together, recognizing digraphs, and knowing the special powers of “Magic e.” These Phonics Writing Activities for Kindergarten are the perfect way to make mastering these skills interactive and fun!

Phonics Writing Activities Bundle for Kindergarten
Each activity pack includes vocabulary cards (they vary for each pack) with fun picture clues on them. Before cutting apart the word cards, be sure to laminate them so they are durable and reusable!
The activity packs also include 2 recording sheets. Both recording sheets are double-sided. The front side is for labeling the pictures and the back includes additional labeling PLUS a space for students to write OR trace a sentence about one of the words on the page. Perfect for differentiation!
The following packs are included in this phonics bundle:
- Alphabet
- CVC words
- Beginning digraphs
- Beginning blends
- CVCe words

Ways to Use the Phonics Writing Activities
The phonics skills in this bundle begin with the alphabet and grow with your students as they master CVC words, blends, digraphs, and CVCe words. That makes this resource perfect for use all year long.
Check out a couple of our favorite ways to use these activities in the classroom!
Literacy Center
These phonics writing activities are a great addition to our literacy centers! Since we use them all year long, the kids quickly become familiar with the directions and routines and can get started right away.
I simply add the vocabulary cards to a small basket for students to pull from. They choose a card and write it on the recording sheet. Depending on the version of the recording sheet provided, they finish the activity by writing OR tracing a sentence.
Teacher Tip: Add the recording sheets to a dry erase pocket sleeve to make the activity reusable. Grab some dry erase markers and you’re ready to write!

Write the Room
Our favorite way to use these activities is as a phonics “Write the Room!” I start by hanging the vocabulary cards around the classroom. When it’s time to play, I add the recording sheet to a clipboard and students search for the cards and write the words as they find them.
For a super fun twist, have one set of students hide the word cards and another set can search for them. When they are done, switch the jobs so each student gets a turn to “hide” and “seek.”

This Phonics Writing Activities Bundle is sure to make writing fun and engaging for your Kindergarten students throughout the whole year!
