Grassland Animal Habitat Centers and Activities
Are you looking for activities that will help you teach your students about the grassland habitat and its animals while building math and literacy skills? This resource pack is exactly what you need!
Skills covered in this pack include grassland vocabulary, letter recognition, letter sounds, sight words, counting, addition and subtraction, shapes, and more!
Let’s check out just a few of the activities included!
Animal Counting Mats
We can never have enough counting activities in an early childhood classroom. These Animal Counting Mats are going to be a hit with your students!
To play, students will choose a number bush card and then count and place that many animals on the mat.
Bison’s Beginning Sounds
This Bison’s Beginning Sounds activity will add tons of fun to your literacy centers! We’ve included recording sheets for practicing both uppercase and lowercase letters.
Students can choose a bison card, name the picture, and trace the beginning sound of the picture on the recording sheet.
Grassland Animal 10 Frames
This Grassland Animal 10 Frames activity is an easy-prep way to work on counting skills. Simply print and laminate the cards and corresponding recording sheet and it is ready to add to your math centers.
Start by choosing from either 5 frame or 10 frame animal cards/recording sheets. Then your kiddos can pick a card, count the animals, and color in the correct amount.
Kangaroo Syllable Hopping Mats
These Kangaroo Syllable Hopping Mats add a fun twist to identifying the number of syllables in a word!
Instead of clapping out syllables, students will pick a kangaroo card and “hop” the syllables. Then they will sort the kangaroo cards on the mat and trace the correct amount of syllables on the recording sheet.
Match and Trace Animal Shape Puzzles
Learning about shapes is so much fun and these Match and Trace Animal Shape Puzzles make it even more exciting and interactive!
Students can work on 2D shape recognition AND tracing shapes as they match the animal cards and then trace each shape on the recording sheet.
Grassland Animals Emergent Reader
Printable emergent readers are a great tool to help your students build fluency skills and build confidence! This Grassland Animals Emergent Reader comes in 2 versions. Print a simple label-style version or one with a predictable sentence pattern.
The best part is they are easy to prep. Simply print double-sided and cut in half for two books!
Plus, at the end of the file, all activities also come in black and white versions for an ink-saving option!
