It’s that time of year! Time for fun, seasonal learning activities like Christmas games and gingerbread themed fun! We love having new, hands-on games in math workshop. This free Gingerbread Addition Game gets kids adding and sorting sums to 10, and most importantly – it’s fun!

*Pair with our Gingerbread Centers & Activities for Pre-K & Kindergarten!

Being able to add sums to 10 is an important skill, and this gingerbread addition game is a fun way to practice it with a seasonal twist. It is definitely a hit in our math centers this month!

### Supplies Needed

• laminator (optional, but keeps the pieces sturdy for repeated use)
• manipulatives or number lines (also optional, but helpful for students to solve the problems)

## Playing the Game

To play this addition game, first spread the gingerbread houses out on a table. The houses are numbered from 2 to 10.

Place the gingerbread men with the addition equations in the middle in a pile. You are ready to start!

We took turns (in a small group) picking up a gingerbread man card and then we all worked together to solve the problem. I provided counting bears for students if they wanted a little help adding the numbers together.

After we solved the problem on the gingerbread man, we matched him up to his home (his correct sum) by placing him near it. We continued picking up gingerbread men and solving their equations until all of them had a home!

To add an extra challenge, you could even bring in timers and see how quickly the kids can solve the equations!

The students were excited to mix up the addition equations and play again!
