Counting Bear Addition Cards
These addition cards are perfect for a Pre-K or Kindergarten math center. They are such a fun activity for both classroom use or even at home for some fun learning too!
Supplies
- Counting Bear Addition Cards (download below)
- Counting bears (I love these ones with the sorting cups!)
- Laminator
- Dry erase markers and erasers
How to Prep the Addition Cards
I first printed out the addition cards and laminated them for repeated use. This keeps them sturdy and reusable since I use them in our math bins during math workshop.
After cutting the cards apart I put them, along with counting bears, out for one of the activities during math centers.
You can decide to put all of the addition cards out or just some of them depending on what your kids are ready for. This makes these cards great for differentiating, as I can have some students working on addition to 5 if needed, or some going to 10 if they are ready.
How to Play
My students use the counting bears for one-to-one correspondence by matching them up to the pictures on the card. This helps them see in a more concrete way that you can put two different sets together and come up with a new total.
I then have my students use dry erase markers (they erase well on the lamination) to write the equations to match.
This activity was definitely a hit – plus, my students are obsessed with counting bears!
