Easy Pumpkin Alphabet Activity
There are a few things that I absolutely LOVE about this literacy activity and I know you will too! This easy Pumpkin Alphabet Activity can be created in no time with supplies you already have on hand. With just a few inexpensive items, you can make an effective ABC center activity your kids will have fun with!
Supplies Needed:
- Orange construction paper
- Black marker
- Scissors (optional)
- Pumpkin seeds or fall-themed manipulative
- ABC letters
How to Create this Literacy Activity
One of the things I like most about this activity is how it can be put together in an instant. It literally took me less than a minute!
Just grab a black marker and quickly sketch out a large pumpkin onto a piece of orange construction paper. You will then use the marker to also write the letters of the alphabet all over the inside of the pumpkin. Remember to scatter the letters around to make it more of a challenge.

How to Play
This easy Alphabet Pumpkin Activity is perfect for Pre-K and Kindergarten! I would suggest using it as a center activity or in a small group.
My favorite way to engage children with any letter matching activity is to place the letters of the alphabet inside of a grab bag or basket. Children love the excitement of not knowing what letter(s) they might be grabbing.
Once your student(s) have grabbed a letter, they will then find the matching letter on the pumpkin. I like to have my kids say the name of the letter out loud. They can also say the letter sound and a word that begins with that letter to make it a little more challenging. Students will then use a pumpkin seed to “cover up” the letter on the pumpkin chart.
Learning to read is so much fun when we create engaging, effective activities for our kiddos. I do hope that you’ve found this Pumpkin Alphabet Activity to be simple to put together and fun for your students. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for posting this activity. It looks like a fun activity that kids can do in school– and maybe at home as well if they have friends over. Since Halloween is just around the corner, the fact that this comes in the shape of a pumpkin is just great!
Heather,
You’re so welcome! 🙂
