Make practicing sight words magical with this free, editable Unicorn Sight Word Matching Game for Kindergarten and 1st Grade!

Unicorn Sight Word Matching Game

This sight word game is both customizeable and super easy to prep! To start, I simply typed the sight words I wanted my kids to work on into the editable file, and then printed out the game pieces.

This download includes the Dolch pre-primer words pre-populated in there for easy printing if you need some ready-to-go words, but they can easily be switched out to words of your own choosing in a pinch!

I knew this game would be popular in our literacy centers so after printing, I laminated the pieces for durability and reuse. Then I cut apart the unicorns and rainbows on the solid black lines.

How to Play

This game works with as few or as many words as you like, and since it is editable, you can easily turn it into an ABC matching game, a name matching game, or anything you need!

I chose to work with a small group of kiddos on a handful of words. We started by spreading out the rainbows face up to see the words.

Then we picked unicorn cards from a small basket and read the sight words, looking for their matching rainbow. After we found a match, we would read the words again to get more exposure and practice with the sight words.

Simply match the rainbow sight word cards with the unicorn sight word cards in this fun sight word matching game.

We kept reading words and placing them with their matches until all the pairs had been found!
