Turkey Letter Recognition Activity

I love finding and using new ways to get students to connect with their learning. They love to use bingo daubers, and they will love hunting for the letters on the feathers in this turkey letter recognition activity!

It is suitable for small groups, pairs, or as an independent literacy activity.

I think you’ll find that this letter recognition activity is so simple to prep yet so fun!

How to Play

Begin by gathering your supplies:

To play, students simply pick a scrabble letter tile and find the matching letter on the activity sheet. They then use their bingo dauber to mark the letter. If you don’t have bingo daubers then crayons or markers work great too! Or for even more fine motor practice, give your students small stickers to peel and stick on the letters!

Fun tip: Place the letter tiles inside of a small basket or drawstring bag. This adds an element of surprise and excitement to the activity!

Bingo daubers and scrabble tiles add an extra element of hands-on fun to this letter recognition activity.

To add a little differentiation, you could choose to focus on a small set of letters, or you could print the entire set of A-Z activity pages for your literacy center. This all depends on the abilities of your students and how you want to use them.

I find that these activity pages are perfect for my ESL kids – I’ve even used them with an ESL student in first grade.

Extension Activity

One of my favorite extension activities is to have a student pick a letter tile, name the letter, and write the letter on a small portable dry erase board.

Next, I like to also write the letter on their board so the student can compare the two. Do they look the same? They love seeing that their letter looks just like mine!

This extension is great for small groups or one on one work.

  1. I love this activity! Any chance of getting a blank copy so I could write in the letters my students need to practice?

    1. Hi Jessica,
This is a great question! At this time, we don’t have this activity as an editable version. I will submit your idea to our creative team so they could consider making an editable version in the future.
Thanks so much! Have a great week!
