Teen Numbers Matching Game for Tens Place Value

This number matching game helps strengthen counting skills through the teens! Without fail, one of my children will count the teen numbers in the cutest, most incorrect way possible. It goes something like, “ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, horteen, hifteen, sisteen…” and on and on and you get the point. It’s always a win when I can get my children to count numbers 1-10 in the correct order and with the proper names, but then they completely wreck the teen numbers!

This activity is great because it can be used in your homeschool, traditional classroom, or you can send it home as homework. It is also so easy to prep. Just print the game cards, laminate for durability, and cut! That’s it!

Below you will find 3 fun ways that you can use the Teen Numbers Matching Game printable with your students.

This game includes matching cards for numbers 1-20 and can be played many different ways!

Traditional Matching Game

This version of the game can be played independently or with a partner.

Students will scatter the number cards and tens bundle picture cards around the table.

As a traditional matching game, students will scatter the number cards and tens bundle picture cards around the table.

Players take turns finding a number card that matches with its proper tens bundle card. The game continues until all cards on the table have been matched.

Grab Bag Number Matching

For this activity, the only supplies you need are the teen numbers matching cards (download below) and a small grab bag for placing the number cards inside of.

This game can also be played alone or with a partner.

Players will scatter the tens bundle cards around the table and place the number cards inside of the grab bag.

Students pull a number card out of the grab bag. They then find its match on the table by counting the tens bundle picture cards.

The game continues until the grab bag is empty and all numbers have been matched with their proper tens bundle card.

Hide and Find Matching Game

I think this method of using the Teen Numbers Matching Game is the most fun!

Children will work in pairs or threes when playing this game.

Player #1 gives the tens bundle cards to players #2 and #3. Players #2 and #3 sit with their backs to the classroom or facing a wall so that he/she can’t see what player #1 is doing.

Player #1 takes the stack of number cards and hides them around the classroom. When player #1 is finished hiding the cards then players #2 and #3 are tasked with the job of finding all the number cards. They then properly match them with the tens bundle cards.

The game continues until all number cards have been found and matched.
