Surf’s up! Summer is such a fun time of year, but it doesn’t have to be a time when no learning activities take place. As long as the activities are simple and fun they can be done all year long! This Surfing the Alphabet Letter Match Activity is a great way to practice letter recognition and following multi-step direction skills for preschoolers and kindergarteners.
Surfing the Alphabet Letter Match
The printable letter match activity includes uppercase and lowercase matching as well as uppercase and uppercase matching. This activity can be differentiated according to the learning levels you are working with.
In the file below you will find 26 uppercase surfer cards, 26 lowercase surfer cards, and a recording sheet full of surfboards. Print the set of alphabet cards that you will use as well as the recording sheet.
Cut the alphabet cards apart and add them to a basket or make a pile with them.
How to Play & Learn
Choose one surfer alphabet card at time. Say the name of the letter. For more advanced learners, have them make the letter sound and even say a word that begins with that letter.
After identifying the letter, find the correct matching letter on the surfboards on the recording sheet. Color in the matching letter and pick another card!
Keep picking surfer alphabet cards until all of the surfboards on the recording sheet are colored in.
If you want to make this a reusable activity, laminate the recording sheet for added durability. Use manipulatives of some kind (mini erasers, counters, etc.) to cover each surfboard as the surfer cards are picked. When all of the surfboards are covered, clear the recording sheet, and play again.
Either way you play, lots of summer themed learning is happening with the Surfing the Alphabet Letter Match!
