Nothing says Thanksgiving like a delicious pumpkin pie! Thanksgiving crafts are some of my favorites! This Pretend Play Pumpkin Pie Craft is completely calorie-free, and can be made using common craft supplies you probably already have in your home or classroom. Buying play food can be expensive, but it is a lot cheaper (and more fun) to make your own!

*Pair with our Thanksgiving Centers & Activities for Pre-K/Kindergarten!

This pretend play pumpkin pie craft is so fun for a Thanksgiving craft in the classroom or a dramatic play center in Kindergarten!

Pretend Play Pumpkin Pie Craft

These pretend pumpkin pies are the perfect size for a Thanksgiving treat for our favorite stuffed animals. They are sure to inspire plenty of imaginative playtime fun!

To make a pretend play pumpkin pie craft of your own, you will need:

  • Brown paper lunch bag
  • Orange tissue paper
  • Cotton ball
  • Washable school glue
  • Paper plate (optional)

How to Make the Pretend Pumpkin Pie

Begin by inviting the students to carefully open up the paper lunch bag and roll down the edges of the bag. This will form the crust of the pretend pumpkin pie.

Once the edges are rolled down, it should look like the picture below.

Invite the students to carefully open up the paper lunch bag and roll down the edges of the bag to make the pretend crust.

Next, use half a sheet of orange tissue paper to make the pretend pumpkin pie filling.

Once the tissue paper is balled up, invite students to glue the tissue paper “filling” into the paper bag “crust.”

Ball up a piece of orange tissue paper and glue the tissue paper "filling" into the paper bag "crust."

Finally, use school glue to attach a cotton ball in the center of the pie for “whipped cream,” and glue the entire pie onto a fall themed paper plate.

Even the youngest crafters can make these simple pretend play pies with very little grown up help.

Afterwards, the kids can use the pretend pumpkin pie craft for a play shop, as a festive addition to a play kitchen, or to decorate the table at Thanksgiving!

I love how such a simple and easy project can make kids so happy!
