Feelings and Emotions Writing Activities

Recognizing and putting a name to feelings isn’t always easy for children. So, I love to incorporate engaging resources to support these important social-emotional skills.

These writing activities are perfect for introducing and discussing different feelings and emotions in Pre-K and Kindergarten. They’re also easy to prep and super fun!

Let’s check out some of the fun activities included!

Vocabulary Picture Cards

The vocabulary cards included showcase 8 common feelings and emotions: sad, embarrassed, angry, surprised, happy, scared, silly, and proud.

The cards come 4 to a page (8 vocabulary words total). They can be used with many of the activities included in this resource pack. Simply cut them out and laminate them for durability before adding them to your writing centers.

Feelings and Emotions “Write the Room”

Once the vocabulary cards are prepped you are ready for one of our favorite activities. This “Write the Room!” is so versatile! YOU get to decide the best way to use it with your kiddos.

Set out the recording sheets at a table with the cards in a pocket chart for kids to see and simply record the words, hide them in a sensory bin, or post them all around the room and let kids walk around with clipboards as they label the pictures.

For the Write the Room, post the vocabulary cards on walls and kids walk around as they label the pictures.

Mini “Write It!” Book

The mini “Write It!” books are great for labeling and can be used in your writing centers or as a whole class activity if you put the words in a pocket chart. It’s a great way to introduce the vocabulary words!

The kids pick a card, find the matching picture in their book, and record the word in their best handwriting. There’s even a word for tracing before they write the word themselves!

Print the pages double-sided and use the cover page to create a journal or you can just use single pages as writing prompts in your literacy centers. You could even send it home as a fun and helpful tool for kids to share their feelings with their families.
