Farm animals are always a hit, and oftentimes with kids, so is mud! This farm-themed literacy center involves a farm animal and mud, but without the mess! I always like to take my kids’ interests and turn them into fun learning activities whenever I can, and this free Pigs in the Mud Alphabet Match is one I am sure we will be playing with for quite some time!
*Pair with our Alphabet Centers and Activities for Pre-K & Kindergarten!

Pigs in the Mud Alphabet Match
To get this ready for my class, I printed out the alphabet match set on cardstock and laminated it to keep the pieces sturdy. This lets us reuse them several times and ensures they don’t rip easily or bend too much!
Then I cut on the black lines to make my puzzle pieces, put them in a small basket, and added them to my literacy centers.

How to Play the Alphabet Matching Game
This set includes 26 uppercase pigs and 26 lowercase mud puddles.
You can decide if your kids are ready for the entire alphabet match, or perhaps a smaller batch of letters. We were ready to tackle them all, so we first found all of the pigs and lined them up in alphabetical order (this is a great skill to practice as well!).
Then we took turns picking up a pig, saying the letter name and sound, and hunting for its matching puddle.
We kept matching up pigs and puddles until they were all happily “playing in the mud!”

Your students will love practicing letter recognition with this hands-on Pigs in the Mud Alphabet Match!
