Penguin Sentence Writing Cut and Paste Activity

This is a great activity for the winter months because, in Kindergarten, we are usually starting to introduce sentence structure around that time.

We talk a lot about how a sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with punctuation and sentence sorters are the perfect way to reinforce these sentence writing skills!

This writing center can be ready with just a few supplies you already have on hand. Simply print, and provide scissors, a glue stick, a pencil, and crayons for an easy-prep writing center!

How to Use this Printable

I like to work on a few sentence sorter cut and paste activities in small groups first before adding them to our writing centers.

In our small groups, I model proper sentence structure and we go over the steps to complete the activity together. Depending on the level of the students, we sometimes even pick out the words and place them in the correct order as a group.

After cutting, students glue the words in order to build their sentence.

Since we know a sentence begins with a capital letter, students can pick that out right away and glue the first word in their sentence. The same is true for ending punctuation. Children can quickly see the final word in their sentence as it has an exclamation mark with it.

We then move on to the words that we know. Those are what we call our high-frequency words or spelling words for those who do spelling in Kindergarten.

Before we know it, we’ve built our sentence and we are reading and writing it all on our own!

The printable cut and paste activity includes a space for students to copy the sentence.
