Missing numbers activities are a fun way to practice number sense. When children are beginning to learn about numbers they first start by counting aloud. From there, we then show them what those numbers look like on paper and how they are ordered beginning with the number one.
Children love activities that challenge them to fill in what’s missing while also having a little fun! What’s even better about this Missing Numbers Free Printable is the adorable bird theme!

If you choose to use this activity one time with your children, provide them with a variety of writing tools like markers, colored pencils or crayons. I like to place them in baskets in centers to give my children options.
I tend to laminate most things because I like the idea of having it to use year after year. Children also like to use dry erase markers and erasers. I strongly believe that any chance to get a child to want to pick up a writing tool and write, is a win-win for sure!
This activity is suitable for preschool-kindergarten aged children. You can use this in a center, small group or as a whole group quiet time activity. One of my favorite things to do with missing numbers activities is to partner up children. With their partner they can check one another’s work and also help their partner if needed. Tip: If you have preschoolers you could place a number chart nearby for reference.
