Missing Number Popsicles

Adding fun to learning activities is a great way to help young children stay engaged. With my preschoolers, I find that simple activities with few directions are the favorites. Keeping things simple allows me to switch out activities more often, which makes things easier as we work through different themes during the school year. These printable missing number popsicles are the perfect number recognition and counting activity to add to the learning fun as the weather gets warmer and summer gets closer!
Missing Number Popsicles
The printable learning activity includes 12 popsicles. Each popsicle has one number from 1-12 at the top and a set of numbers at the bottom that includes a missing number.
The object of the missing number popsicle activity is to match the popsicle back together correctly by finding the number on the top that belongs in the black space at the bottom.
Simply print the set from the link below on cardstock paper. If you are laminating the pieces, do this before cutting it out. This saves you a step and allows the popsicle pieces to fit back together exactly. Cut the popsicles out around the black lines, and then carefully across the zig zag line across the middle of the popsicles.
Once all 12 popsicles are cut out, you are ready to play!
Time to Play!
This activity is a perfect quick learning center in your classroom or at home! Spread the tops of the popsicles out on the table so all 12 numbers can be seen. Have your children pick one popsicle bottom at a time and find the correct missing number! Each time a popsicle is put back together correctly, it’s time to move on to the next one.
To make this completely an independent activity, write the correct missing number in pencil on the back of each popsicle bottom. After all 12 popsicles are put together, flip the popsicle bottoms over to double check that each missing number has been found.
For younger learners, start with just a few numbers. Smaller groups of popsicles will be easier to work with successfully. Pulling out the numbers 1-5 would be a great place to begin!
A fun idea for 2 or more children to play together would be popsicle memory. Turn all popsicle pieces upside down. Each child takes a turn to flip one top and one bottom over at a time, hoping to match the right missing number.
