My kids love doing letter craft projects as part of our rounded approach to learning the alphabet. This P is for Pig seemed like the perfect Letter P Craft.

For the most part, I try to pick craft subjects that can be made to look like their letter – and with a few flourishes, a letter “p” can be easily transformed into a happy pig!

While some letter crafts require alternative options for the capital or upper case letter, this P is for Pig letter craft works just as well for lower case “p” and upper case “p.”

If you also make a pink pig, you can practice the alliteration of the double p’s, and you can encourage kids to add mud splotches or any creative touches they see fit.

Making the Letter P – P is for Pig Craft

First, gather your materials:

  • Pink construction paper or cardstock
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue sticks
  • Scissors (for the teacher/parent)
  • Pink pipe cleaner, optional

Using the scissors, prepare the shapes needed for making your pig letter craft – each child will need:

  • 1 letter p
  • 1 oval or circle for the nose
  • 2 triangles for ears
  • curly tail – or use the pipe cleaner

Provide the children with the necessary shapes, googly eyes, and glue sticks. My kids also always have access to markers and crayons, so keep that in mind if you want to allow the children to personalize their crafts even further.

I don’t like showing the kids how I originally envisioned the craft and prefer to let them assemble the craft however they like – as long as the letter is properly oriented. (i.e., I wouldn’t do an “a is for alligator letter craft” that would require the letter a to be aligned sideways.)

My kids enjoyed adding their pig’s ears, nose, tail, and eyes while we discussed other words that started with “p.”

Our P is for Pig Letter P Craft was a smash hit and is going to make a great addition to our Letter Craft Workbooks – or would make a great wall decoration for our classroom.
