If you’re sensing a definite food theme in our kindergarten letter crafts series – you’d be right! M is for Muffin is our letter m craft, the newest addition to our increasingly delicious series.

When I first started doing my letter series with my first group of kids, we loved m is for muffin so year after year, that letter is reliably our choice for exploring the letter m.
It’s a theme with lots of different options – scented scensory bins, baking, playing bakeshop, learning the nursery rhyme “Do You Know the Muffin Man?” – or taking it in a different direction with Laura Numeroff’s classic, If You Give a Moose a Muffin.

Letter M Craft – M is for Muffin Craft
First, gather your materials:
- Brown construction paper or cardstock
- Scissors (for the teacher or parent)
- Muffin liners and coffee filters
- Glue
- Items to decorate your muffins – bingo dabbers, markers, even sprinkles!
Using the scissors, cut a lowercase m and uppercase M for each child. Set out your materials and stand back to watch the bakers at work!

Have your kids decorate their muffins to resemble their favorite flavor.
We had a fun conversation about favorite types of muffins and baked goods while we made this craft, which gave me loads of ideas to expand on this delicious theme.

After they are done decorating their muffin in the style they choose, glue a muffin liner on the lowercase m’s and a coffee filter (which just looks like a giant muffin liner) on the capital M’s.
There are always a couple of kids who’ve never had muffins before, so in that case “mmm” can just stand for “mmm, that’s delicious.” Usually we take the opportunity to bake shortly after or before this craft so that is quickly rectified.

Our M is for Muffin Letter M Craft was fun and easy – and simple to expand upon to make a full-fledged muffin unit!
