To make this fun and easy paint, you just need to gather a few simple supplies.

  • 1 1/2 cups shaving cream
  • 1 1/2 cups Elmer’s glue
  • 3 drops green food coloring (we used gel food coloring for all colors)
  • 1 drop purple food coloring
  • 2 drops orange food coloring
  • glitter (optional)
  • paint smocks (optional)
After all your supplies are ready, add 1/2 cup shaving cream and 1/2 cup of glue to 3 separate bowls.

Now comes the fun part! After all your supplies are ready, add 1/2 cup shaving cream each to 3 separate bowls.

Then, mix in 1/2 cup of glue to each bowl and stir well.

Add food coloring to each bowl to create fun colored puff paint.

Next comes the fun colors! Add 2 drops of orange coloring to one bowl and stir. Add 3 drops of green coloring to another bowl and stir Add 1 drop of purple coloring to the final bowl and stir.

*Teacher Tip: I recommend using gel food coloring for the best color achievement.

The paint is has a puffy texture and the colors mix smoothly.

After the paint is all mixed – the best part begins!

You can choose to use paintbrushes if you wish, but truly, this paint is awesome to let kids get their hands in. They LOVE the puffy texture and the smooth mixing of the colors.

Sometimes I like to put it all out on a tabletop and let a few kids try at a time.

Kids can even use the puffy paint to spell fun words like "Happy Halloween."

Foam puffy paint is wonderful for sensory play, and it is fairly easy clean up too (Yay!). What will your kids create with this Halloween puff paint recipe?

    1. Hi Beth,

We have never tried to paint pumpkins with this puffy paint but it sounds like a fun idea! Please come back and let us know if it works out! 🙂

  1. Hi! I love this! We are virtually right now. Do you know if I make this and put it in cups, will it still be puffy in like 2-3 weeks? Or does it need to be made fresh?

    1. Hi Alyson,

We recommend making this paint fresh for the best paint texture and learning experience with your kiddos. We hope you love it! 🙂
