The next letter up in our Letter Crafts series is our letter H craft – H is for House! This is a great letter to complement a building unit, a discussion on families, or simply an exploration of the letter H.

I had my construction-obsessed boy help me determine which shapes should be included in our house craft. The rest of the kids were fine with this letter craft, but none were even close to as excited as he was – WE WERE GOING TO BUILD A HOUSE!
In retrospect, I wish I had spent more time building up this easy letter craft with the others but they were pretty pumped about some fun activities we had planned for later that day – and it was a nice twist to have one child take special responsibility for designing one of the crafts.

Making the Letter H Craft – H is for House
First, gather your materials:
- Various colors of construction paper
- Glue sticks or school glue
- Scissors (for the teacher/parent)
Using the scissors, prepare the shapes needed for making your house letter craft – each child will need:
- Letter H
- Triangles for the roof
- Squares for windows
You can also add extra shapes, like smaller triangles for porches or small rectangles for doors. You can have the kids suggest what shapes they see when they look at houses and cut out the shapes they come up with.

Simply provide each child with a letter H and set out a big tray with all of the shapes that you have prepared.

Discuss the intention of the craft and encourage them to lay out the shapes for their houses before you hand out the glue – an important lesson to learn in any form of construction!

I would have no hesitation in allowing the kids to adorn and decorate their houses however they wanted. While these crafts are fairly prescriptive, kids should feel the freedom to make their crafts their own.

Our H is for House Letter H Crafts turned out super cute and are going to make a great addition to our Letter Craft Workbooks – or would make a great wall decoration for our classroom.
