Learning the alphabet is definitely something we spend a lot of time on in Kindergarten! Last year our Fishing for Letters sensory bin was super popular in the classroom. I will use it this year as well, but I also wanted a similar game to have on hand so that kids could have choices, but technically be working on the same skills using the same materials. This free Fishy Bubbles Alphabet Match does just the trick!

This game is fairly quick to prepare if you have a printer and a laminator handy! You will also want to grab some round glass gems from the dollar store. You can find similar ones here on Amazon as well.

I first printed out the fish letter cards on cardstock and laminated them (this will keep them much sturdier) before cutting them apart.

Then I printed a few copies of the color alphabet match gameboard and several of the black and white gameboards as well. The colored version I like to keep on hand for when I lead a small group and we play together. I laminate it and it is easy to reuse year after year.

How to Play

To play, we first set the fish cards in a pile. Then we took turns picking a card from the top and saying the name of the letter. If you are working on beginning sounds, you could have kids say the sound the letter makes as well.

Then, we searched for its lowercase match on the gameboard and covered the bubble with a gem.

Dollar store gems are the perfect manipulative for covering up the letters on the recording sheet.

The black and white version allows for a variation of the alphabet match game if you do not have the gems available. Instead, kids can pick a fish card and color the matching bubble.

You could also use this as a recording sheet where they first cover the letters with gems. Then they can color after they complete the game.

Students can also pick a letter fish card and color the letter on the recording sheet.
