While fire safety is always important, it is usually stressed even more so during fire prevention week in October. There are many fun programs teachers and parents can join and free online resources, but one of the best and easiest ways to get involved is to read great, informative books to your children or students. These 15 fire safety books for kids are great read alouds for fire prevention week and for learning about the brave firefighters that keep us safe.

15 Fire Safety Books for Kids

This is part of the fun Dragon Safety series. In this book, a dragon’s tea party turns into a flame-filled lesson on fire safety. I love that it incorporates rhyming too!

Ride along with “Big Frank” and learn all about the many important jobs that firefighters do!
Jobs People Do — A Day in a Life of a Firefighter

I love the real pictures and simple text in this book that tells the story of firefighters on a mission to save a girl’s dog. While it’s a simple story, it is very appropriate for early readers.

Jessica is a major worrier, and fire safety is seriously stressing her out! This fun story helps Jessica discover that being prepared in an emergency and knowing what to do can ease fears.

This book is great for a classroom read aloud, as most all kids can (or will soon) be able to relate to a fire drill. What happens when D.W. is afraid the school will burn down? Will Arthur be able to ease her fears?
Fire Safety with Lieutenant Toby!

This rhyming book is a fun one to read aloud. The illustrations are bright and engaging, and the story is told by “Lieutenant Toby” – a dog!

Climb aboard fire engines and ride along as firemen save the day in this older, yet still fun, Little Golden Book classic.
Fire Safety (Bookworms: Safe Kids)

This early reader speaks right to kids and gives them lots of information about how to prevent fires and what to do if one occurs. The style and format are perfect for kids! If you have firefighter-loving kids – they will love this one!
Fire Is Out!: Fire Safety Coloring Books

While this isn’t a picture book or read aloud, it still makes the list because kids learn in a variety of ways, and sometimes coloring can be a great avenue to build up fine motor skills while focusing on a specific topic!

This book is great for early childhood teachers to read aloud, as it focuses on a fire drill in a Kindergarten classroom. What do you do in a school fire drill?

Learn about fire and burn safety with Brecker Bunny and his friends. Brecker and his friends also learn that sometimes you need an adult’s help (and how to get it).
What If There Is a Fire? (Danger Zone)

What do you do when the fire alarm goes off? This book takes kids through different scenarios and helps them learn important fire safety tips.
Crusty Cupcake’s Christmas Catastrophe: Fire Safety for Children

The cupcake gang is at the factory waiting for the Christmas cupcakes to arrive when a catastrophe occurs! Can they save the day and learn some fire safety lessons along the way?

This adorable Dalmatian is the official “spokesdog” for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and is ready to help save lives! This book walks through a neighborhood, pointing out fire hazards and giving helpful tips about how to be prepared and stay safe.
