Fall is in the air and we are excited because leaves are falling and the weather is cooling! I love bringing seasonal themes into our activities and centers. Having fun, themed handwriting activities in our writing centers, as morning work, or just as an extra go-to option is always a hit. These free Fall Letter Tracing Printables can be ready in a pinch and will bring some autumn learning fun into the classroom!

Fall Letter Tracing Printables
I love activities that let my students explore letters while having fun, and activities that give them a good amount of choice too!
It may not seem like such a simple handwriting activity can provide many options for students, but when my kids hear the words “rainbow writing,” they always get excited! We use crayons to write a lot in the classroom. We also have a ton of other coloring utensils that we use during word work.
Some of our favorite writing tools are colored pencils, skinny markers, and Pip Squeak markers. I love these markers because they are short and easy for little hands to control as kids develop fine motor skills.

Ways to Use the Letter Tracing Printables
If we are using our letter tracing printables in a word work center, students grab a printable (uppercase AND lowercase options included!), grab their colors, and set to work on tracing their letters!
You can keep it as simple as this and let them just trace (which I often do early in the year). Or, you can have the kids first cover the letters with an alphabet magnet and turn it into a letter match center before they trace.
If we are using this handwriting activity in small groups, I take the opportunity to work on letter sounds. I will say a word and we will identify the beginning sound together. Then the students trace the letter on their printable.
