Editable St. Patrick’s Day Sight Word Game
This editable St. Patrick’s Day Sight Word Activity is perfect for Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms as an independent activity or for a literacy center. It’s also super fun to use for partner work!
This activity allows for customization and differentiation – you can choose any 15 words that you’d like your students to focus on! Simply type them on the custom word generator page – and it will auto-populate the shamrock words and recording sheet for you!
Print multiple word lists to use with small groups. You can focus on different sets of words for each group of kiddos!
Supplies
- Crayons
- Seek a Sight Word recording sheet (download below)
- 15 sight word shamrocks (download below) – laminate for repeated use
Tip: Use green candy or manipulatives to “cover up” the shamrocks on the recording sheet. Laminate the recording sheet or slide it into a dry erase pocket and you have a reusable literacy center!

Ways to Play
The best thing about this FREE printable is… it’s EDITABLE!
The possibilities are endless with an editable activity. You can choose to use seasonal words, spelling words, high-frequency words, Dolch words, sight words – the list goes on and on!
I am so excited for you to use this with your students and I have a few variations to share with you!
Seek a Sight Word and Color Partner Race
For this partner game, two players share a recording sheet and each pick one color crayon that is their designated color.
Player #1 draws a shamrock card, reads the sight word, and finds/colors it on the recording sheet. Player #2 then proceeds as player #1 did.
If a player doesn’t know the sight word, they put the card at the bottom of the pile and miss their turn. The player with the most shamrocks colored at the end of the game is the winner.

Seek a Sight Word and Color Activity
This sight word activity is also a fun and easy-prep independent literacy center! Place the Seek a Sight Word recording sheet in your literacy center with crayons and the sight word shamrocks.
Students will take a shamrock from the pile, read it, and find/color it on the recording sheet.
The activity continues until all of the sight word shamrock cards have been read and colored in on the recording sheet.

“Read the Room” Seek a Sight Word Activity
I like to scatter the sight word shamrocks around the classroom for the students to find. Students will use the recording sheet to color in the words as they find them.
If this activity is used in pairs, then partner #1 can hide the shamrocks around the classroom and then partner #2 finds them.
Students then take turns and switch so each child has a turn to “hide and seek.”

Thank you SO MUCH! My students loved this activity and it was so easy to prep! I’m an elementary librarian and used this as a kindergarten center. The teacher was very impressed with the collaboration, and another teacher saw it set up and eagerly asked where it came from. I happily shared your site with her and encouraged her to explore all the fabulous stuff she’ll find there. You are really making me look good, LOL! 😀
Hi Karen,
This is wonderful to hear! I’m so happy you are enjoying our resources. Thank you for spreading the word! We love what we do here and are happy to support the teaching community. Have a great school year!
Alex
Hi , Thankyou,
I really love the editable gifts you give out free, it saves space on my computer and I also can adjust the words for different
grade levels as my grandkids are 6,8,3, and 12. We do summer refresh school in the summer for 2 hrs a day when I babysit them while their parents are working. It keeps thier minds sharp and breaks up the day and they play the rest of the day. This way they don”t forget. I worked at a school as a reading parapro so I know what kids should be learning for each grade. The online teacher Blogs are also very helpful. I love all you teachers on line. You ladies are doing some very great things for parents and grandparents on limited budgets. Thank you and please know you are very much appreciated. Alex don’t let those Iowa winters
get you down. I lived there for 4 yrs back in the 1970’s. That was enough for me .HaHa, May God Bless you and your family. Thanks again.
Thank you so much! These are great ideas-especially for centers! 🙂
