For the most part, I don’t like edible sensory bins but I somehow got roped into buying a box of Alpha-bit Cereal by my daughter and I had to come up with a way to put it to good use. This Edible Alphabet Sensory Bin is super simple but the opportunities for learning are endless!
The first time I did an edible sensory bin was our edible rainbow sensory bin and my daughter has been asking for one ever since. That one was a lot of work so I’m glad we came up with this much easier solution!
I can’t show too many pictures of this sensory bin because we actually used it for spelling our names and I don’t want to put my kids’ names on the internet.
This is great for the home or the classroom – but especially for the home where you may have mixed ages all wanting to play with the sensory bin,
How to Make an Edible Alphabet Sensory Bin
- 1 large box Alpha-Bit Cereal
- 1 box colorful cereal
- Large storage bin (ideally with a lid)
- Paper for recording words
- Spoons, bowls, etc – optional
Just mix the cereals together in the large storage bin and add in any spoons or bowls that you want to use to play with the bin.
For us, I just wrote the kids’ names on a large piece of paper and encourage them to find the letters to their name. We then glued the cereal to the paper to make our own (mostly) edible art.
However there are sooo many ways kids can use this sensory bin. It would make an awesome game of scrabble, you could encourage kids to just find as many words as possible and add them to a bowl or glue to a piece of paper, you can make alphabet necklaces – seriously, just about any way that you can think to play or craft with the alphabet, you can use this bin to make your idea even tastier!
This Edible Alphabet Sensory Bin is quick, cheap and easy to set up but is a memorable sensory bin that your kids will love!
