Fall Leaves Craft for Kids
To make this beautiful fall craft you will need to create foam stamps. These foam stamps can be used again and again by adding a bit more ink each time. Experiment with different colors of paper or ink for a different look each time. Your kids will absolutely love this activity. Every leaf that they create will be uniquely theirs!
Step 1 – Gather Your Materials
- block printing ink
- brayer
- foam trays
- gold tempera paint
- cotton swabs
- cardstock paper
- leaves (real or fake)
- scissors
- pencil
Step 2 – Make the Stamp
To begin, use scissors to remove the outer rim from a foam tray as shown. This sheet of foam will be used to create the “stamp” for your block printing project.
Next, use a dull pencil to trace the outline of a leaf onto the piece of foam tray. Add the veins of the leaf or other designs, as desired.
Step 3 – Ink the Stamp
Once the stamp has been made, invite students to roll the brayer into a foam tray with yellow and red block printing ink.

Mix the ink just enough to cover the brayer.
Once the brayer is covered with ink, invite students to roll the brayer over their leaf stamps and cover the entire surface.
Step 4 – Stamp Your Paper
Immediately after applying the ink to the stamp, flip the stamp over onto a sheet of cardstock paper. Apply firm and even pressure. Finally, carefully lift up the stamp to reveal your block printed leaf!
For a finishing touch, dip the end of a cotton swab into some gold tempera paint and add a dotted border around your block printed design!
Allow the paint and ink to dry completely.
