Earth Day Craft and Writing Activity

To celebrate Earth Day this year, I paired this super fun painting craft with the engaging writing prompt that says, “I can help the earth by: _______.”

These marble painted “earths in space” were a huge hit with my kindergarteners! After all, who doesn’t love marble painting?

Students will marble paint using blue, green, and white paint to cover the craft template.

How to Make the Earth Day Craft

To begin the craft, you’ll need white, blue, and green paint. You also need a tray to hold the paper and marbles in for the students to roll and shake. Copy paper lids work great!

Place the circle template (included at the end of this post) FACE DOWN in the tray. This ensures that the students can see the circle to cut out once it dries. If you paint on top of the circle – they can’t see it (I did that for the first one on accident!).

I also recommend taping down the paper to the tray so that it doesn’t slip around or lift up.

Start by taping the craft template into a box or tray.

Put a few squirts of each color on top of the paper and about 4-5 marbles in the tray. Let the students roll away!

Take the paper out of the tray and let it dry. By the next day, the students can easily cut out the circle (remember it is on the other side!).

Glue the β€œearth” on a piece of 12Γ—18 black construction paper near the top.

Cover the paper with blue, green, and white paint and start rolling marbles in the tray to spread the paint.

Time to Write!

We start with the writing part of this Earth Day activity by discussing as a whole group all of the ways we can help the earth. The kids love sharing their ideas!

We write our responses on the whiteboard so everyone can see them. After we have talked about helping the earth the students get to write down their favorite choice on the Earth Day printable.

After the craft is done, students can write how they would help the earth.

When we are done writing, I glue the writing printable to the bottom half of the construction paper underneath our Earth Day craft!
