Strengthen fine motor skills while welcoming spring with this easy and beautiful Do-a-Dot Spring Flower Craft for Kids!

Do-a-Dot Spring Flower Craft

If you haven’t used dot markers before, you’re in for a treat! Besides being mess free, they also help develop hand-eye coordination and strengthen fine motor skills as the kids hold the dot markers and move their hands to apply the marker to the paper.

Do-a-Dot markers are especially great for little ones. They are chunky, making it easier for little hands to grab and manipulate them. We always have dot markers and low-prep dot activity printables on hand for quick and easy fun that we can do any time!

But our favorite way to use dot markers is for crafts. So let’s get started on our Do-a-Dot Spring Flower Craft!

What You Will Need

This spring flower craft is so simple, making it perfect for younger kids. It is a no-prep activity that only requires two supplies – paper plates and Do-a-Dot markers!

Helpful Tip: I recommend using smaller dessert sized paper plates to begin with as the kids become comfortable with the markers. It means less surface area that they will need to cover with dots.

The kids start on the outside edge of the paper plate and go around the circumference of the plate stamping the dot markers until it is filled to the center.

How to Make the Spring Flower Craft

There are a couple of options for making this craft. One option is to give your children or students the paper plates and dot markers and just let them start dotting away. It is so fun to see the unique creations they make!

Or, if you want to make this a more structured activity, follow these simple steps:

Have the kids start on the outside edge of the paper plate and go around the circumference of the plate stamping the dot marker with one color.

Alternate stamping colors and fill in the center of your spring flower with one final color.

Then have them pick another color and stamp a circle just within the first dot circle they made. Repeat the process two more times or as many times as your plate allows for.

Finally, you should have a small area in the center of the paper plate. Fill that area in by stamping one final color.

If you want to extend the craft, you could cut a stem and leaves from green construction paper or craft foam. Glue the leaves to the stem and the stem to the paper plate.

This pretty spring flower craft is low-prep and makes a great display in the classroom.

These Do-a-Dot Spring Flowers make great decorations for the classroom or beautiful handmade gifts!

  1. This is a really cute idea. I think I’m going to let each child cut out their center piece and place it in the middle. Thanks for the idea.👍up
