CVCe Word Activities and Centers
Learning CVCe words can be a little tricky because this is where children need to recognize that letters have different sounds that get expressed when they are combined with certain letters at certain times. That is a lot for an early reader to think about!
Consistent practice is key to making progress with this tough skill. Lucky for you, this awesome pack of CVCe Word Centers and Activities will give your kiddos tons of practice that is fun and engaging!

CVCe Word Builders
Students will practice building CVCe words for all long vowel sounds with these CVCe Word Builders. They have a cute and colorful picture of each word and boxes for each letter as guidance for your students.
I really like these CVCe Word Builders, because they can be easily differentiated for your students. Children that need support can look at the matching card with the word spelled out and build what they see! For your students that are ready for a challenge, have them try to build the word without having it in front of them.
You can use fun magnetic letters to build words on these cards or laminate the cards (I like to laminate anyway for sturdiness) and let your kiddos write the letters in the boxes with a dry erase marker.
CVCe Word Family Mini-Books
These mini-books are a great way to practice CVCe word families. With 15 word families included, your students can practice word families for each long vowel sound.
I love these books because there is no cutting or stapling needed! Just print and fold, and you have a mini-book all set for your students. They can color the pictures and trace the CVCe words on each page.
Have them bring these mini-books home for extended reading practice!
CVCe Write It!
Kiddos will practice writing CVCe words for long vowel sounds with this CVCe writing center. This resource comes with colorful picture cards for each word.
Have the students pick a CVCe picture card and copy the word on the recording sheet next to the matching picture. Or use this activity as a “Write the Room” option by hanging the picture cards around and having the kids go and find a card and then write the word down.
CVCe Pocket Chart Activity
I love pocket chart activities! There is so much learning that can happen, and it is an activity that can easily take you all the way from Circle Time to centers.
