We work hard on learning to read sight words, including color words, in a variety of ways. Color words are always something I enjoy teaching and the kids enjoy learning because you can make them more engaging (and colorful!) with fun activities like this free Colorful Candies Color Words Activity! Your kids will love coloring candies this Halloween season!
*Pair this with our Halloween Centers and Activities for Pre-K & Kindergarten!
Colorful Candies Color Words Activity
I typically use printables like this as morning work/entry tasks in my classroom. They can also be great to have in a literacy center.
Simply print out as many copies as you need for your students, add some fun coloring tools (we use crayons a lot, but we also love skinny markers, mini markers, and colored pencils to change things up) and you are ready to get started!
How to Use the Colorful Candies Printable
Each lollipop shown has a color word written on it. Kids read the word and color the candy to match.
For younger students, or students who aren’t yet ready to read the words on their own yet, I find it helpful to highlight the color words in the correct color.
This lets them be exposed to the word, while having the color there to guide them as they learn. You could also hang up color posters for kids to refer to and use to check their own work.
We read the words and color until all of the candies are complete. Colors included are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, and black!
Your students will love celebrating the Halloween season with this fun color words activity!
