These hands-on Color Activities & Centers are great for teaching color identification and color words to your Pre-K & Kindergarten students!

Color Activities and Centers

Color does much more than just make something prettier to look at. Both color recognition and color word identification are skills that all young learners must master.

We don’t even realize how much we use color in the classroom. Think of all the things we use colors for. Students sort objects by color. Or they might create patterns with colors. We often use color as an adjective to describe the world around us.

So it’s important that children have a strong grasp of color and color words, which is just what this pack of color activities and centers will provide!

What’s Included?

Kiddos will practice identifying, writing, tracing, matching, and sorting colors and color words. With over 150 pages of activities that are low-prep for you and super fun for your students, you will love this resource!

This pack includes over 150 pages of activities that are low-prep for you and super fun for your students.

These activities are NOT themed to any specific holiday or month, so you can use them any time of the year!

Check out a few of the activities in this pack below…

Roll a Rainbow

“Roll a Rainbow” is a hit in my classroom. Use the color cards provided if you have a pocket dice, or use the dice template to make your own color dice!

Kiddos roll the dice and record their roll on the graphing sheet. Students can record their roll by coloring the box in the matching color crayon.

Add a little extra fun to this activity by letting the children use colored stickers, paint, or bingo daubers!

Color Sorting Mats

Laminate these super cute sorting mats and color cards to have a low-prep center ready to go. Kiddos will sort the cards onto the mat with the matching color.

I love these mats, because students can go beyond the cards that come with the activity and sort real-world objects onto the mats as well. Let them search the room for objects that are blue or purple. Or give them a tub of beads, bears, or unifix cubes, and let them sort away!

Write It! and Color It! Colors

Send your students on a color hunt! Go beyond just color identification with this “Write It!” colors activity. Kiddos will work on color words as they find color cards around the room and write the color word.

Work on color words as students find color cards around the room and write the color word on the recording sheet.

If your students aren’t quite ready to write the words, use the “Color It!” version of the activity. The children will find the color cards around the room and color the matching picture on the recording sheet.

I like to laminate these cards. It makes them extra sturdy, and they last for years!
