Christmas Tree Tally Marks Number Match
This Christmas tree tally marks game is so versatile! It can be used for small groups, independent work, and it also makes a fun, festive addition to your math centers!
How to Prep
Print the Christmas tree tally recording sheet and make copies for each student.
Print the tally marks ornament cards on cardstock or laminate to be used over and over again.
Place the ornament cards in a basket. Now it’s time to play!

How to Play
Pick an ornament card and identify how many candy peppermint sticks are on it. Find the matching number on the Christmas tree recording sheet and color it in.
You could also have your students use a bingo dotter to color in the matching number on the recording sheet. This adds an extra element of fun that the kids love!
Keep playing until all cards are picked and all of the ornaments on the Christmas tree are colored in.

How to Differentiate
Printable activities like the Christmas tree tally marks number match are perfect to use with your small groups in the classroom.
I like to introduce our small group activities during circle time, so that everyone has an idea of what to expect as they come to the table.
The learning level of the group depends on how each group will play this activity. Some groups may play on their own with a teacher sitting there for reinforcement when needed. Other groups will work together while figuring out the number on the card and then finding the matching number on the recording sheet.
Some groups will be called with just one or two children in them. This allows the teacher at the table and the student to work together and focus on individual skills that have not been mastered yet.

The best part of this game is that when the kids are done the recording sheet can go home! This gives parents an idea of what their child learned at school that day!
