This free Beach Emergent Reader for early readers includes predictable text and high-frequency words and is great for some summer reading!

Beach Easy Reader

I am all about ease of use and quick prep when it comes to most learning activities. I know that in a classroom (and home), time is valuable, and we don’t want to spend it all stapling and cutting.

That’s what I love about this beach-themed easy reader – it’s super simple to prep! Just print double-sided, cut in half, staple, and you have two books ready to go!

How to Use the Easy Reader

For this reader, I printed the color version and laminated it to keep as a classroom copy. Then, I also copied off enough of the black and white version for my kids to color their own.

We read through the book in small groups and when we are done kids can color the pictures to make it their own.

The book kicks off with the question “What will I see at the beach?” Then, each page contains high-frequency words and a predictable pattern, where you can read about all of the things you may see on a trip to the beach. Things such as a sandcastle, beach ball, umbrella, crab, and shells. The picture support is there to help kids read the changing words as well.

I like to use this easy reader while working in small groups. We read through the book together, using the fun pictures to help us identify the words.

When we are done the kids can keep their copy and proudly show off their coloring at home!

The cover of the beach emergent reader doesn't just say "name" but rather it says "colored by" - making the kids feel like little illustrators.

My kids get so excited to see that on the cover of their reader it doesn’t say “Name” but instead, it says “Colored by” – making them feel like little illustrators!
