I absolutely love fall and I love doing seasonal activities with my students! We all enjoy having some apple-themed learning fun. This free Apple Patterns printable activity is so fun for kids, and I love that they are working on patterning skills and fine motor development at the same time!

This fun and free Apple Patterns printable activity is great for working on patterning skills and fine motor development at the same time!

To set up the activity, you will first need to gather the supplies!

I used red, green, and yellow pom poms for the “apples” and grabbed a small basket to place them in. I had clothespins on hand to incorporate fine motor practice as well as patterning skills.

Lastly, I printed the pattern cards and recording sheet (download below).

How to Prep and Play

To begin, I added the pom poms into a basket with a few clothespins (you can adjust the number of clothespins depending on how many students are playing).

I placed the pattern strips on top as an invitation to play. My students have had prior teaching of what an “AB” or “ABC” pattern is.

I added the pom poms into a basket with a few clothespins and placed the pattern strips on top.

If you prefer the kids to just order apples on the strips without the pattern label, or for younger learners just exploring patterns, there are blank strips included as well in the download.

To play, students simply look at the pattern label in the first box and use the “apples” to build that pattern on the pattern strips. They can extend the patterns further if they wish.

Using the clothespins to pick up the pom poms and place them on the pattern strips helps build up strength in their fingers, which is a great benefit as they learn to write!

Extending the Activity

Some students may be ready to extend the activity by recording their patterns. On the recording sheet, they can color their apples to match their pattern strips.

This activity also includes a second version of the recording sheet without the pattern labels for kiddos to build and color their own patterns.
