I love collecting acorns, don’t you? My kids love to put them in their sensory bins as well as use them as a manipulative. This year, however, it seems as if the squirrels have beat us to the punch and we will not be getting our usual haul- but that’s okay. These acorn clip cards were created to show our love of acorns- even if we didn’t get that many this year.

*These pair perfectly with our Pre-K Clip Cards and Kindergarten Clip Cards!

Acorn Counting Clip Cards

Clip cards are so versatile and are always a hit with kids. Pinching and releasing clothespins is a great way to strengthen fine motor skills and those writing muscles.

Sometimes, however, that can be a challenge for kids and they may not be ready, so you can use the cards a little differently like we did!

First, I printed out the cards (below) on cardstock and laminated them for repeated use. After I cut them apart I placed them in a basket and had not only clothespins on hand, but some colored counters as well.

Colored counters are a great alternative for kids who may find clothespins to be a bit too hard to open and close. The picking up of the counters is still work for little fingers, but is a step before the strength needed for clothespins.

I sat with Caleb and showed him what had to be done. I slowly counted each acorn and then repeated the number.

Next, I placed the transparent counter on the correct number.

Once I was finished demonstrating, I allowed him to pick a card and then place a counter on the correct number.

We kept counting acorns and covering numbers together until all numbers 1-20 were complete!
