Valentine’s Day is near, and while we mostly go about our business as usual when it comes to our classroom learning, I do enjoy incorporating some Valentine-themed learning activities into our day this time of year! These free Valentine Alphabet Match Clip Cards for Pre-K & Kindergarten are great for strengthening letter recognition and fine motor skills!

This activity is hands-on and engaging for your kiddos. Plus, it’s super easy to prep!

To prepare this matching game you will need the clip cards (download below) and some clothespins. I use mini clothespins with my students but regular size ones work great too!

I recommend laminating the clip cards for durability and reuse in your literacy centers.

To prep this alphabet match game, simply print, laminate, and cut the clip cards and grab some clothespins.

How to Play

You can decide how many letters you want your child or students to work with. Start with just a few, or use them all in a center – it’s up to you!

I typically use a few cards at a time if I am working in a small group and we are focusing on specific letters. However, if I am making this an activity choice in our literacy centers then I will put all of the cards out in a basket.

To play, students simply grab a card and say the uppercase letter. Then, they clip the matching lowercase letter with the clothespin.

Teacher Tip: To differentiate, you could have your students also identify the sound of the letter or say words that begin with the letter.

Students grab a card and say the uppercase letter. Then, they clip the matching lowercase letter with the clothespin.

Opening and closing a clothespin is a great activity for strengthening fine motor skills, so these clip cards are great for more than just letter practice!
