Turkey Sight Word Game

There are 20 sight words included in this super fun, low-prep printable game (4 games with 5 words each). They are taken from the Dolch Pre-Primer list and are appropriate for any beginning reader.

The words included are: the, said, and, my, to, big, can, for, go, jump, in, is, it, look, me, little, see, you, play, one

This game is super easy to prepare, especially if you are playing with pocket dice. Then you just cut out the sight word cards that are included in the download and slide them right in!

There is also a paper die included that you can fold and secure easily with tape. I recommend printing the paper die on cardstock and laminating before assembling for extra durability.

Print off the word set you are using, along with the matching recording sheet (enough for each child), and you are ready to play!

How to Play

My students love dice games, and this one is no exception! The goal is to see which sight word gets to the top of the graph first. So, not only are kids getting sight word practice, but also strengthening handwriting, spelling, and graphing skills too!

The kids simply roll the die, write the sight word in its correct column, and roll again. If they roll a turkey, they can choose any word they like.

You can have students play alone and provide different versions in your literacy centers, or you can use it as a small group activity.

Students roll the die and write the sight word in the correct column on the recording sheet.

In small groups, we each take turns rolling the die, and then we all record that word on our recording sheet, talking about our predictions for the “winning word.”
