Treasure Alphabet Match Activity

This alphabet matching game is easy to prepare. Simply print out the treasure chests and coins on cardstock for sturdiness, laminate them for durability, and then cut them out.

I like to cut the coins out in circles to give them a real “coin-feel” but you could also cut them in squares to make prep even faster!

This download includes a set of uppercase treasure chest letter cards and a set of lowercase coin letter cards for matching.

How to Play

To play, start by putting the coin letter cards in a pile or small basket. I happened to have a super cute treasure box that really had my students excited to play!

Start with as many or as few letters as you like. If your students are just beginning to learn the alphabet you may decide to start with only a few letters and introduce more later on.

To play, students pick a lowercase coin letter card and find the matching uppercase treasure chest card.

Next, lay the treasure chest letter cards out so students can see them clearly. Have them pick a lowercase coin letter card and go on a “treasure hunt” for the uppercase match. When they find it they can place the coin “inside” the treasure chest by laying it on top.

After your students get the hang of the game, you may choose to introduce the optional corresponding recording sheet. This gives the kids the opportunity to practice letter writing and show off their hard work!

Students can also write their letter matches down on the corresponding alphabet match recording sheet.
