Pencil Count and Clip Cards

This printable set includes clip cards featuring the numbers 1-10. Each card has a group of different numbered smiley pencils on it.

To prep, simply print the count and clip cards and cut them apart on the light gray dotted lines. Laminate your set or print on white cardstock for extra durability.

Now gather a set of clothespins. Place the cards and clothespins in a small basket or tray for practice in your math centers or small groups.

Print and laminate the counting cards for durability and grab some clothespins for clipping.

How to Play

Now that the clip cards are prepped, it’s time to start counting!

I like to introduce activities like these count and clip cards during our Circle Time. This allows me to provide opportunities for students having a tough time with a certain skill to get a little extra practice.

It also is a great time to show non-examples to the class to make sure that they are understanding the correct goal of the activity.

To play, students count each pencil on the card and find the correct number on the side. Then they use the clothespin to mark the correct number.

If your students are working on one-to-one correspondence, make sure that each pencil on the card is touched or pointed to as it is counted.

Teacher Tip: To make the cards self-correcting, write the correct answer in pencil on the back of the card. This is helpful if you are not able to sit with your students while they are playing.

Students will count the pencils on the card and clip the correct number.

When all of the cards are complete, the kids can remove the clothespins and play again!
