This paper bag gingerbread house craft is a fun and festive way to celebrate in December! It is a great way for preschoolers and kindergarteners to work on developing fine motor skills, shape recognition, and following directions. Plus, this project is all the fun of decorating a traditional gingerbread house, but without the calories or sugar crash afterwards! It’s a “must add” to your holiday craft collection!

Paper Bag Gingerbread House: Holiday Craft
I love how each one of these paper bag gingerbread houses look so unique! Every student can create their own house, and later line them up together to form a gingerbread village. Your students will be so proud of their festive holiday creations!
What You Need:
- brown paper lunch bag
- old newspaper
- quick drying tacky glue
- brown construction paper (pre cut rectangles/squares for doors & windows, sheets cut in half roughly 6″ x 8″ for the roof)
- red & white striped paper straws
- craft pom poms
For very young children, teachers can help by pre-cutting the doors and windows. However, older students may like practicing their scissor skills.
Directions:
Invite students to carefully open the brown paper lunch bag, ball up a sheet of newspaper, and place it inside the bag.
Students can roll the top half of the bag shut.
To make the roof, fold the half-sheet piece of construction paper in half. Students can decorate the rooftop with crayons or markers if they choose. An adult can then staple the roof in place.
Decorate the house with striped paper straws (peppermint sticks), craft pom poms (gum drops), and construction paper doors/windows.
Teacher Tip: No craft pom poms on-hand? Try having students tear small pieces of tissue paper and balling them up instead!
It’s that simple! Your students will be so excited to show off their gingerbread masterpieces!
