Kids love learning about the ocean and we recently have been learning about ocean zones and animals. You can bet they are still on our minds! I love to incorporate things that interest us into other areas of our day, too. We are continuing the ocean animal-themed fun in our centers by working on addition to 10 with these engaging and free Ocean Animal Addition Cards.

*Pair with our Ocean Centers and Activities for Pre-K & Kindergarten!

Have fun working on addition with these free Ocean Animal Addition Cards. They're perfect for bringing the ocean fun to your math centers!

Ocean Animal Addition Cards

Prepping this activity really didn’t take long at all! I simply printed the addition cards, laminated them, and then cut them apart. My paper cutter made this prep even quicker!

I placed the cards in a small basket and added some dry erase markers (and small socks that we use for erasers). That’s it – I had a new, exciting math center ready to go!

Print, laminate, and cut apart the addition cards for a reusable and super fun math center.

How to Play

To begin, I played a couple rounds with my small groups. First, we grabbed a card and identified the animal on it. They are fun drawings and not real images. But most are easily identifiable, and I could help the kids if needed. They loved seeing which ocean creature they would grab next.

Then, we looked at how the set of animals was divided to form our addition equation. “4 clownfish plus 2 more equals 6!“

Once the cards are laminated, students can use dry erase markers to write their addition sentences.

We kept grabbing cards and adding them up until we had completed them all. Then, with a little time left, we erased our addition cards and were able to play again!
