Heart Number Order Clip Cards

Here’s what you’ll need to prepare these engaging heart-themed counting cards for your kids:

  • laminator
  • paper
  • scissors
  • Heart Clip Cards (at the end of the post)

These cards are so simple to use in a center, and the black and white version is also included so you can add your own numbers, or even print them out for kids to complete individually as a recording sheet.

Once the cards have been printed and laminated, you can cut them apart and place them in a basket. It would be helpful to have a separate basket for ‘completed cards’ for the teacher to check, but it isn’t necessary to have.

I like to prepare the kids before we start working on this activity, just to help them review their counting skills. I would have a few numbers written up on the board with two empty boxes next to the numbers.

We then begin to fill in these boxes as a whole class. Another way to review counting on is to simply begin by counting from any number e.g: 3, 4, and have the kids complete the sequence orally. What comes after 3? What comes before 4 etc.?

That way when you hand out the cards, they are more prepared to complete them as a group or individually.

To use the cards in a center, the kids then pick a card and read the numbers shown. Then they count on to find the missing number in the sequence.

This will help enhance their counting on skills along with their number order skills.

They clip the number that’s missing and then they write the number with a dry erase pen in the empty heart. They continue this until all the cards are done.

You can then wipe them and get them ready for the next group of kids to use them. You can finally use the recording sheet to assess their individual progress.
