Learning to read and write isn’t easy, but it certainly doesn’t have to be boring! We are all about making learning fun, and our writing center is always a go-to area in the classroom because the kids love the changing themes while knowing the expectations and activities. These CVC words writing centers get us reading 22 word families and 128 different CVC words for TONS of hands on reading and writing fun!

*Grab these on their own (below) or in our Phonics Writing Centers pack!

CVC Words Writing Centers

Like our seasonal writing centers, our phonics based writing centers also have routines and activities that kids become familiar with over time.

This allows them to build confidence and allows you to spend less time giving instructions – it’s win-win! They change up which skills they are practicing on so that the focus is truly on the phonics skill on not on the direction following.

While direction following is a skill and is definitely important, that is not the focus of these activities, as the goal is to allow kids to work independently as much as possible, rather than to have to constantly ask, “what do I do again?”

With all of our writing centers, you only have to give directions a few times, and after that, your students will have it down. Then, any time you change out a theme or skill, they will know what to do!

Our CVC writing centers come with over 400 pages of CVC fun – so your kids will definitely have this down after short a!

Each activity shown comes with a variety of short a, e, i, o, and u vowels individually, as well as mixed vowels – there are activities for 22 word families PLUS mixed CVC words!

They will get vocabulary cards to work on labeling books (shown above) as well as dry erase strips for labeling a variety of words.

You can choose which short vowels they are working on in the writing center – short a, e, i, o, or u!

My kids favorite is always the “write it” activity, which is very much like “write the room.”

You can either hang up the vocabulary cards around the room, put them in a sensory bin, or even just place them in a basket for the kids to pull out. I promise they will love it any way you play it!

They pick a card, find it on the recording sheet, and write it down.

With 16 different packs included in the CVC writing center pack – that’s 128 CVC words for them to practice!

Get your kids practicing writing simple sentences or short stories with their own story books!

These simple story books are great for using classroom word walls or invented spelling. Kids can even use them for labeling or copying the words multiple times, depending on their needs. There is no wrong way to use them!

You can copy double sided and turn it into a book for them to work on over time in the writing center, or run off single pages to have on hand in the writing area for them to write stories or sentences about as they choose.

Finally, work on scissor skills, tracing, and gluing, with the “trace and paste” activity page.

Read the words and match them with their pictures by gluing them in the appropriate boxes. This is great in the writing center, as a small group activity, or in a guided reading group.

There are so many fun CVC words writing activities in this printable pack!

All the colored pages also come in black and white. You can save ink or print on colored paper to give it a fun and unique twist.

Grab the centers below and have writing centers fully done and ready to go for you, and get your kids reading and writing CVC words!
